Wide Screen Mode, 16:9 - Records images in a compressed form for playback on a 16:9 TV to show cinematic wide screen images. Also known as letterbox format.
Emulsion Side - The side of photographic film or paper coated with the silver emulsion. Film output is specified as emulsion up, or emulsion down.
Dot - Dots make up an image in color separations or halftones. Halftone dots will have a fixed density but have variable size (amplitude modulation).
Barn Doors - A term used in television production to describe the effect that occurs when a 4:3 image is viewed on a 16:9 screen. When this happens, viewers see black bars on the sides of the screen or "barn doors."
PalmPilot - Palm, Inc.'s palm-sized device that debuted in 1996. In 1998, Pilot was dropped from the name for legal reasons.
SmartFilm - Fuji's brand name for their APS products.
Extended Data Service (XDS) - Allows broadcasters to insert reference information in their signals such as time/date and channel reference.
