Baud Rate - Used interchangeably with "Bits Per Second." The unit of measure used to rate the speed at which computer data can be translated via modem. Typical modem rates are 2,400, 9,600, 14,400, and 28,000 baud.
Bluetooth - Technology allowing short-range radio links between mobile devices. Unlike infrared, Bluetooth does not require a clear line of sight to operate properly. Many mobile phones are now Bluetooth-enabled.
Set-top box (STB) - A box, similar to the familiar cable box, that is capable of receiving, decoding and sending to the associated television the picture and sound of the selected DTV broadcast. The use of an STB would allow the use of conventional televisions to receive DTB programs, but at reduced levels of resolution and with imperfections due to aspect ratio differences, leading to letterboxing or cropping of the sides of the picture.
IPAQ - A Pocket PC first released by Compaq and now manufactured by Hewlett Packard.
Metadata - Informational data about the data, included in a signal's data stream.
Dolby Digitalr Surround Sound - Multi-channel digital audio encoding that creates discrete left/right stereo, center and left/right rear channels for realistic three-dimensional sound. Also referred to AC-3 or 5.1 Surround.
Hertz (Hz.) - A scale used for measuring the number of cycles per second.
