Plasma Displays (PDP). A technique that builds an image from a large number of pixels formed in a glass panel. The pixels are individually controlled, yielding a picture free of flicker and of high brightness. Displays of excellent resolution and color are available and the display approaches the "television picture on the wall" ideal. PDP displays up to 160 cm (63in.) are available, making them suitable for the home theatre.
Disc - The spelling variation of "disk" referring to compact discs such as Photo CD or other CD-ROM.
Comb Filter, 3-line Digital - The 3-line digital comb filter provides a very accurate means of separating the colour from the black and white in the television signal. The filter works with three lines of picture information and is effective in removing dot crawl and hanging dots, both vertically and horizontally.
CMY (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow) - These three subtractive primary colors are used in color-negative printing and in some color output devices to produce a full gamut of color. The combination of pure CMY inks produces black, and the elimination of all three produces white.
MPEG-2 - (Motion Picture Experts Group technical standard 2) - This is a widely used standard for digital encoding of motion pictures. It typically achieves a 50 to 1 compression of data. It achieves this mainly by not retransmitting areas of the screen that have not changed since the previous frame.
SLR Camera - The most expensive of all digital cameras, digital SLRs offer complete manual control, higher resolution, advanced exposure control, and the benefits of detachable lenses. Due to the lens design, digital SLR's are not capable of shooting video.
Pixel - The smallest unit of color on a computer screen. High resolution devices have more pixels per square inch.
