Signal to Noise Ratio - A comparison between signal and noise levels measured in decibels. A ratio of wanted signal to unwanted noise. This ratio is abbreviated as S/N.
Multi-path interference - Some neighborhoods are plagued with this problem: - The signal finds more than one path to the antenna. Multi-path results from reflections off of buildings and diffraction around the sides of hills. For NTSC sets this will result in ghosts: multiple images shifted laterally. For DTVs the result can be an unusable signal, even though it may be strong. The solutions are moving the antenna or selecting a very directional antenna. Newer generations of DTV receivers are better able to cope with multi-path.
IPI - Irreversible Processed Indicator, a tab on the cassette. Depressed or broken in photofinishing to serve as an alternative indicator that the cassette has been processed.
Component Video Inputs - Component video inputs (Y/Pb/Pr) consist of the luminance signal (Y) and two separate chrominance signals (Pb and Pr). These inputs provide outstanding resolution and colour accuracy for video images. Televisions with component video inputs can accept either progressive or interlaced signals from a variety of sources, including DVD players and digital TV set-top boxes.
PalmPilot - Palm, Inc.'s palm-sized device that debuted in 1996. In 1998, Pilot was dropped from the name for legal reasons.
S-Video Input Jack - The 4-pin S-video input jack allows you to connect a DBS (Dolby Digital) system or DVD player directly to the luminance and chrominance circuits of the TV set. By keeping colour and luminance information separate, cross-colour interference is virtually eliminated from the picture.
Computer Program - Term used to describe a specific piece of software for a computer system. Sometimes referred to as an application.
