Spatially Equalized Speaker (SES) - System This system places the speakers inside acoustic chambers. The sound resonates through an acoustically matched baffle system, and projects through thin grilles on either side of the TV screen. This system allows for the use of larger speakers, providing greatly improved sound quality and proper sound imaging.
JAD - Java Archive Descriptor: Provides a condensed version of a J2ME application including information on where the installation file is located. Both JAD and JAR files are needed to install J2ME applications.
Aspect ratio - The ratio of screen width to screen height. For TVs it is either 4:3 (1.33:1) or 16:9 (1.78:1). Theater film uses many different aspect ratios, some as high as 2.5:1.
Composite Video Inputs - A video signal in which brightness (luminance) and colour (chrominance) are combined into one signal. Composite video inputs and outputs use RCA jacks.
Soundstage - A sonic recreation of an environment in three dimensions: front to back, side to side and up and down. In a home theatre, the soundstage's sonics should match the visuals that appear on the TV screen in terms of placement, size and imaging.
Pixel - The smallest unit of color on a computer screen. High resolution devices have more pixels per square inch.
LCD Projection Television - New projection television display technology that enables a significant reduction in cabinet size-one third slimmer and less than half the weight of a comparably-sized CRT-based projection model. A high output light source, sophisticated lenses, dichroic mirrors, polarizing filters and advanced prism systems separate white light into the video colors of red, green and blue. Tiny liquid crystal light `valves' then control how those colors are re-combined to create the full-color video picture.
