Fps - Frames per Second. To give the illusion of motion, television actually transmits a series of snapshot pictures referred to as frames. Increasing the frame rate improves motion smoothness and may reduce flicker in some displays. In Canada both analog and digital television transmits 30 Fps.
Downconvert - The process which reduces the number of pixels in the scanning format used to represent an image, so that it may be reproduced on a display of lower resolution, such as a conventional television. For example, an HDTV image may be downconverted to an SDTV or NTSC image, but in the conversion significant detail information may be lost.
Color Calibration - A system of software and/or hardware that matches the colors between two or more digital devices. Color calibration systems commonly compare device color profiles and translate one color model into a device-independent language that the next color device can use.
Capture - Acquiring information, such as an image, with a scanner or digital camera device.
Frequency Response - A frequency range that an electronic component can accurately reproduce. Humans can hear from 20Hz to 20,000Hz (20kHz). An ideal component would have a frequency response, totally flat or without deviation, from 20 Hz to 20 kHz.
First-surface mirror - Normal mirrors have the silvering on the back surface of the glass. First surface mirrors have it on the front.
Screen Aspect Modes - Because both widescreen 16:9 and standard 4:3 programming must co-exist for the foreseeable future, Hitachi has designed a number of screen modes that allow viewers to enjoy both formats.
