Analog Video - The conventional NTSC television system in use today uses analog technology, in which the image sound and the picture brightness and color are represented by signals proportional to these values. The values of these signals are vulnerable to interference and noise. Digital television overcomes this vulnerability and delivers signals that are totally clean.
Channel Balancing - A process that equalizes the level of each speaker in a home theatre system. This feature uses a test tone generated from the receiver and is controlled with keys on the component's remote control. Channel balancing must be performed from the primary seating position.
LCD - Liquid Crystal Display. The optical technology that makes small, flat screens possible.
Shareware Registration - Best described as "try before you buy" software. Customers can either use the program for a limited amount of time or they are able to try a "crippled" version of the product. In both cases, the customer must register (pay for) the product in order to utilize all of its features for an unlimited time. Applications that use shareware registration often require an "unlock key" after purchase.
Apple Newton - Apple Computer developed this early model PDA during the 1980's.
Palm OSr - The operating system used on PalmT handhelds and other third-party devices, including Sony, Handspring, Kyocera and more.
HD-Capable TV - A standard definition set with a digital tuner. (This term was probably invented to confuse people.)
