Letterboxed - Refers to a program that is presented in or close to its original aspect ratio. The aspect ratio compares the width of the picture to the height. Standard TV broadcasts and cablecasts use a 4:3 aspect ratio, while most movies are shot in an approximately 16:9 ratio.
EPG - Electronic program guide. An on-screen display of channels and program data.
Fps - Frames per Second. To give the illusion of motion, television actually transmits a series of snapshot pictures referred to as frames. Increasing the frame rate improves motion smoothness and may reduce flicker in some displays. In Canada both analog and digital television transmits 30 Fps.
MPEG2 - Gets its name from the Motion Picture Experts Group, an international standards-setting panel. It is a video compression standard that enables more data to be packed onto DVD discs.
Digit - A single unit from which all data is built.
Low-Pass Crossover - A filter, found in a powered subwoofer, that accepts a full range audio signal heading for the subwoofer and passes only those frequencies falling below a predetermined frequency, attenuating those above. The goals are to "feed" the subwoofer only those frequencies that it can comfortably reproduce.
Tint - Some percentage of a solid ink. Tints are created by using a screen to create the impression of a lighter color when the ink is printed onto paper or another medium.
