Photo Memory Card Slot - Accepts the most popular photo memory cards that are used with digital cameras. The viewer can display still photos using the on-screen menu, and specific photos can be selected for a customized slide show. Hitachi televisions support six different types of photo memory cards ranging from Secure Digital, Memory Stick, Compact Flash, Smart Media, Multimedia Card and IBM Microdrive. Some Hitachi models have a Universal Card slot already built in while others will display digital photos with the use of a PCMCIA adapter card (not provided).
Compression - A method of reducing the number of bits required to store or transmit programs by the removal of redundant and/or non-critical information in the digital picture and sound. The DTV broadcasting standard for Canada, uses the MPEG-2 video and the AC-3 audio compression coding. Compression allows the delivery of more programs in a single channel.
Digital Comb Filter - Converts chroma (colour) and luminance (detail, black and white) information into digital code and eliminates video noise. The end result is improved picture quality and colour purity without dot crawl. Dot crawl occurs when edges of the picture move and appear wavy or shaky.
Analog (audio) - Refers to sound stored or reproduced as an electrical signal analogous to the original sound wave.
SDTV - (standard definition TV) - SDTV is 480i, which is approximately the resolution of NTSC and DVDs.
PIM - personal information management. Refers to handheld computer applications that organize personal information such as calendar, to do lists, memos.
LUX - A measurement of light level. Normal house lighting level is 75 to 100 LUX. The lower the rating, the better the indoor recording will be without the use of additional lighting.
