Y, PB, PR - A method for carrying the video between HDTV or SDTV devices that retains the maximum quality and is recommended for HD television. The video is carried on three cables, respectively carrying luminance (Y) and the two color difference signals (PB, PR).
DLP (Digital Light Processing) - A technique in which the displayed image is produced by an array of dynamic micro-mirrors formed on a chip, each reflecting some of the light source to form a pixel on the screen. Each micro-mirror controls the level of the light sent to the screen for its pixel. Resolution is set by the size of the mirror array and versions suitable for wide-screen HDTV are now in production for uses in both front and rear projection televisions.
DTV - (digital TV). Examples of DTV are DBS satellite services, digital cable TV services, and ATSC digital TV stations.
Advanced Photo System - Sometimes referred to as APS. The new imaging system centered around a new film cartridge, with cameras, film, and photo finishing all talking to one another to avoid errors, produce pictures of the best quality, and organize these pictures for easy retrieval.
Flying Erase Head - Erases unwanted material an instant before new, wanted video is edited over. Provides clean edits with no noise or rainbows.
USB - Universal Serial bus, a way for handheld computers to connect with desktop computers.
Main Speakers (MAINS) - The left/right speaker pair that flanks the TV screen. They reproduce much of the program's music tracks, special effects and sounds that should come from the left or right of the TV.
