EPOC - The operating system of the Symbian platform, which works best with low-power, compact machines and long-running applications. It was developed and licensed by Symbian. See Symbian.
Resolution - The level of resolution directly affects picture quality. The higher the resolution, the more picture detail there is. Many things affect picture quality, including number of bits, pixel count, format, receiver quality, cameras, lenses and lighting used for live or taped programming. Resolution is measured by the number of pixels displayed. One of the high-definition picture formats is composed of 1080 active lines, and each line is composed of 1920 active pixels. Therefore, each frame has over 2 million (1080x1920=2,073,600) color pixels creating the image. By way of contrast, today's typical analog television is roughly equivalent to 480 active lines, with each line holding about 440 pixels. So, each frame has a little over 200,000 color pixels in use creating the image.
A/V Integrated Amplifier - An audio/video receiver that doesn't have a tuner. This type of receiver is an option when radio access isn't desired.
RAM - Random access memory. Temporary storage for computer files.
Ghosting - The effect of changing an object's level of opacity
Velocity Modulated Scan - An advanced circuitry located along the neck of the CRT that senses transitions from dark to light in the video signal. The black and white portions of the signal are sped up and slowed down respectively, resulting in sharp dark to light transitions and outstanding edge definition.
Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) - Hitachi is the leading manufacturer of the rear projection television glass picture tubes that house the electron gun and phosphor-coated faceplate. Hitachi rear projection televisions incorporate three monochromatic discrete high-output CRTs (one each for red, blue and green) that project the full-color image at the screen.
