Bitmapped images - Images made out of an array of dots. Each dot is represented by either a single number or a set of three or even four numbers ranging from 0 to 255. Photo CD and Photo Floppy images are bitmap images.
Application - A program, such as a word processor or a spreadsheet, that performs one of the important tasks for which a desktop or handheld computer is used. This term is sometimes use in place of or in conjunction with "software."
High-Pass Crossover - A filter, often found in a powered subwoofer, that accepts the full-range audio signal heading for the main speakers. This filter only passes frequencies falling above a predetermined frequency and it attenuates those below. The goal is to prevent the main speakers from reproducing sounds that would be more accurately reproduced by a subwoofer.
Multi-path interference - Some neighborhoods are plagued with this problem: - The signal finds more than one path to the antenna. Multi-path results from reflections off of buildings and diffraction around the sides of hills. For NTSC sets this will result in ghosts: multiple images shifted laterally. For DTVs the result can be an unusable signal, even though it may be strong. The solutions are moving the antenna or selecting a very directional antenna. Newer generations of DTV receivers are better able to cope with multi-path.
Rasterization - Changing vector type image information to raster image information.
Digital Zoom - Relates to Hitachi DVD Camcorders.
JAR - Java ARchive. A file that contains the data for a J2ME application, gathered into a single location and compressed for faster downloading.
