PSIP - Acronym for "Program and system information protocol", an ATSC DTV specification that enables a DTV receiver to identify the program information and to create on-screen electronic program guides and content advisories.
Direct Frequency Tuning - Allows direct access to a desired radio station by entering exact digits of that station by using remote control or buttons on the front panel of the receiver.
Subtractive Primaries - These are the three colors that are used to create all other colors in color photographic printing. (Cyan, Magenta and Yellow)
Auto Tracking - This VCR feature automatically finds the best tracking position for optimum picture and sound.
BPS (Bits Per Second) - A measurement of the speed of data transfer, used interchangeably with the term baud per second. In many image editing programs, this is the term describing a special effects filter that performs a specific function, such smoothing selective edges. In some cases, the image editing programs present the brushes as an icon that actually looks like a brush.
Dolby® Pro-Logic® Surround Sound - Creates a very realistic soundfield. There are four components: front left channel, front centre channel, front right channel and rear channel. The front centre channel contains mostly dialogue and centre sound effects. The front left and right speakers contain directional sounds. The rear speakers help to re-create the reflective ambience of the original room in which the audio was recorded. This system generates short echoes and delays that help make the entire audio experience more lifelike.
Dolby Pro Logic Surround. This is a 4-channel analog system. During recording, the 4 channels are "folded" into 2 stereo channels. If played back without a Pro Logic decoder, it sounds like normal stereo. This format is becoming obsolete.
