Downconvert - The process which reduces the number of pixels in the scanning format used to represent an image, so that it may be reproduced on a display of lower resolution, such as a conventional television. For example, an HDTV image may be downconverted to an SDTV or NTSC image, but in the conversion significant detail information may be lost.
Infrared - A wavelength used to transmit data. Many mobile phones and computers have infrared ports, enabling data to be shared between two devices without wires.
Focal Length - A lens measurement (in millimeters) that determines how big an image will be. It's the focal length which determines the perspective, i.e., wide angle through telephoto.
Interlace Scanning - The process of creating a video picture comprised of frames constructed out of two sequential fields. Common specifications for interlaced video are 480i and 1080i.
Base Resolution - The Photo CD image resolution (512 x 768 pixels) that is formatted for display on current consumer televisions.
DTV - (digital TV). Examples of DTV are DBS satellite services, digital cable TV services, and ATSC digital TV stations.
Hue - One of the components of color. The hue can be specified by the particular wavelengths or by CIE coordinates.
