Set-top box (STB) - A box, similar to the familiar cable box, that is capable of receiving, decoding and sending to the associated television the picture and sound of the selected DTV broadcast. The use of an STB would allow the use of conventional televisions to receive DTB programs, but at reduced levels of resolution and with imperfections due to aspect ratio differences, leading to letterboxing or cropping of the sides of the picture.
Focal Length - A lens measurement (in millimeters) that determines how big an image will be. It's the focal length which determines the perspective, i.e., wide angle through telephoto.
Automatic Advanced Video Enhancement - Standard video signals are converted to higher resolution by referencing 26 different points in space and time to create smooth edges and diagonals. Hitachi's VirtualHDT digital video processor considerably surpasses the industry standard by employing an algorithm that references 10 points in time, as well as 16 points horizontally in space.
Wind Switch - Suppresses the rumbling background noise that might be heard on recorded video when the wind is blowing.
Magnetic Shielding - Minimizes magnetic fields in speakers that might interfere with a television picture.
Photo Memory Card Slot - Accepts the most popular photo memory cards that are used with digital cameras. The viewer can display still photos using the on-screen menu, and specific photos can be selected for a customized slide show. Hitachi televisions support six different types of photo memory cards ranging from Secure Digital, Memory Stick, Compact Flash, Smart Media, Multimedia Card and IBM Microdrive. Some Hitachi models have a Universal Card slot already built in while others will display digital photos with the use of a PCMCIA adapter card (not provided).
Auto Repeat - Allows the VCR to automatically rewind and begin playback when the a tape finishes playing.
