Megapixel - A measure of resolution that reflects the ability of a digital camera to record detail. The more megapixels a camera has, the more detail its images can contain and the more they can be enlarged without losing clarity. More megapixels aren't always necessary, however. Silhouetting - A masking or image blocking that isolates and image from the background.
Dynamics - Describes the way that a home theatre system renders soft as well as loud sounds. A system with good dynamics renders all sounds in natural, lifelike, three-dimensional proportions.
Rangefinder - A type of viewfinder that uses one lens for focusing light onto the focal plane, and another for framing your image. Optically, a rangefinder is much less complicated, and therefore less expensive, than an SLR configuration.
VGA - a 5-wire standard interface, originally for computer monitors, now common for HDTV monitors. Usually the 5 wires are in one cable. The connector can be either a 15-pin connector or five BNC connectors. The signals are usually red, green, blue, horizontal sync, and vertical sync. But Y, Pr, and Pb can replace the colors.
Analog Video - The conventional NTSC television system in use today uses analog technology, in which the image sound and the picture brightness and color are represented by signals proportional to these values. The values of these signals are vulnerable to interference and noise. Digital television overcomes this vulnerability and delivers signals that are totally clean.
Operating System - The software by which a computer creates an environment where applications are run. Often abbreviated as OS.
