Film Speed - The relative index, also called ISO, of how much light a film requires to be properly exposed. A 100 ISO film requires four times the light of a 400 ISO (speed) film for correct exposure. Rule of thumb - Dull day-high speed, bright day-low speed
Cropping factor - Many digital SLRs use an image sensor that is smaller than 35mm film. If you attach a lens to one of these cameras, its 35mm equivalency will be multiplied by the cropping factor-a manufacturer's specification. For example, if your digital SLR has a cropping factor of 1.6x, then a 50mm lens mounted on your camera will have a 35mm equivalency of 80mm. That is, the 50mm lens will yield the same field of view as an 80mm lens on a 35mm camera.
Data Compression - The process of reducing the size of a data file, usually accomplished through software processing.
NTSC - "National Television System Committee" - Conventional video format, consisting of 480 interlaced lines of resolution.
Cyan - One of the three subtractive primary colors. Produced by mixing equal amounts of blue and green projected light. Cyan is also one of the four colors used in 4-color printing.
8-VSB - Acronym for the transmission method used for over-the-air DTV broadcasting in Canada and the USA. Eight discreet amplitude level, "vestigial side-band" broadcast transmission technology. VSB is an analog modulation technique used to reduce the amount of spectrum needed to transmit information through cable TV, or terrestrial broadcasting.
