Hack - Software designed to upgrade the existing usability of a handheld device or add new features to the operating system, like language support.
IX [Information Exchange] - This is the designation for how the camera, film and photofinishing equipment communicate with each other. There are two types of Information Exchange. Optical Information Exchange simply exposes marks on the film in a reserved area. This is used to tell the photofinisher what format of picture you selected (C, H, or P) when the photo was taken. Magnetic Information Exchange has even more information. It can tell the photofinisher about the conditions that the picture was taken so that it can be printed to its best. It can also record greetings and information (date, time, name of event, etc.) which can be printed on the back (see Backprinting).
Impedance (audio) - The amount of resistance to current. In loudspeakers, a device with a lower impedance rating puts greater demands on the power amplifier.
Digital Image - A picture that is in computer language. Because the picture is represented by a series of numbers, it is very easy and improve the image or to alter it.
DVD-RAM - Camcorder re-writeable record/playback format that records high-quality MPEG-2 video (the same format used for DVD production) and digital still photos to a special dual-sided, 2.8GB disc. DVD-RAM discs are re-writeable up to 100,000 times and can be played back in DVD-RAM compatible decks such as Hitachi's DVRX5000U DVD player/recorder.
Digital Convergence - Refers to the alignment of red, blue and green at a common point on a projection TV screen to produce white. In projection TV models with this feature, the red, blue and green images converge at more than 165 independent points on the projection screen. This method assures a more accurate initial convergence setting at the factory and a decreased likelihood that the convergence will require adjustment in the home environment. If adjustments are necessary, a repair person can readily make them with greater accuracy and in less time than with conventional methods.
Hi-Fi VCR - Comes very close to rivalling the sound quality of a laser disc player.
