SDTV - "Standard Definition Television." SDTV are based on 480 lines of vertical resolution and may have either 4 - 3 or 16 - 9 aspect ratios, and surround sound. Several SDTV programs are sent together to form the simulcast bundle. While SDTV pictures are of significantly better quality than NTSC, they are not up to the standard of HDTV.
Baud Rate - Used interchangeably with "Bits Per Second." The unit of measure used to rate the speed at which computer data can be translated via modem. Typical modem rates are 2,400, 9,600, 14,400, and 28,000 baud.
VCR Plus+™ - Allows you to program the VCR by entering a three to eight digit code listed in TV Guide or local newspaper publications.
Soundstage - A sonic recreation of an environment in three dimensions: front to back, side to side and up and down. In a home theatre, the soundstage's sonics should match the visuals that appear on the TV screen in terms of placement, size and imaging.
Camcorder - Video camera and video recorder in one unit. Very portable, compact and convenient.
8VSB modulation technique - (8-level vestigial sideband) - DTV stations in the U.S. use 8VSB modulation. This is an AM mode wherein the carrier is multiplied by an 8-level digital signal, and then a filter is used to remove all but the carrier and 6 MHz of the upper sideband. ("8VSB" is often used as a synonym for OTA.)
Flying Erase Head - Erases unwanted material an instant before new, wanted video is edited over. Provides clean edits with no noise or rainbows.
